The tourism sector has never seen so many obstacles to overcome with oil prices on the up, bird and pig flu outbreaks and the credit crunch. The pound has fallen to a record low against the euro and dollar and many financers reckon the Bank of England is more than happy to see this come to fruition, as GB Limited becomes more competitive.

The fall in the pound has benefited British export traders, the UK domestic tourist industry and encourages people to choose a holiday at home. Moreover, the Bank of England has adopted a very even stance over this fall and has more or less admitted this is not the worst thing that could happen.

The Uk on population percentage, travel abroad more than any country and this is already evident in reduced profits usually seen in such countries as France, Portugal, Greece, America, Sweden, Romania, Germany, Scotland, Egypt. It is estimated that for 2009 more than a million less Uk tourists will venture to Spain and given Spain’s high reliance on tourist income this will be a a devastating blow to their economy at all levels, causing companies to close and increase unemployment.

The main area in Great Britain which will be hit the worst are those which work in foreign tourism such as airlines, airport hotels, airport parking companies, travel agents and ultimately the airports who are all seeing less income this year with the predictions not much better for the following year because of the falling pound. Furthermore the fall of the pound will probably have a worse affect than the recent recession, with Brits opting for a holiday at home. For those opting to go abroad there is bound to be superb savings for travellers using UK airports and in real terms the cost of East Midlands airport parking or if you plan to stay in a hotel before you fly your East Midlands hotel parking will be substantially cheaper

Fluctuating currencies always makes life hard for all foreign holiday companies to state costs so far in to the future. They all will be aware that they are in competition not only with local establishments but hotels in other countries who have been affected, places like Turkey who have seen a stedy increase in business at the expense of other European countries.
