Plain Old-Fashioned Harassment, Part 1

This article is the first of a three-part discussion on the nature of, and relationship between, cyber-bullies, griefers and the legal concept of harassment.

Because the terms “cyber-bully” and “griefer” are often tossed around interchangeably, I’d like to clarify when and under which circumstances they are meaningfully distinguished (at least for our purposes), and when they are not.

General definitions, set in proper context, will probably suffice for this purpose. Where such definitions fail to adequately reach, or address, problems involving physical or psychological damages, we will look to the law to determine (a) whether the legal system has developed meaningful distinctions between griefers and cyber-bullies.

More importantly, we will look to the law to (b) get a better understanding of the types of remedies it provides, in instances where damages are incurred (Note: though it would seem to “round-out” our discussion to lie it alongside an actual case study, the current format is not suited for such elaborations . . . so anyway . . . ).

Let me begin with a general clarification of the term “griefer.”

The Griefer

“Griefer” is a slang term used to describe a player in a multiplayer video game who plays the game simply to cause grief to other players through harassment. Griefing is a malignant form of emergent gameplay (see “griefer” at Wikipedia.org).

I think of griefers, metaphorically, as the annoying kids at a birthday party; they keep yelling, crying, and throwing things until you ignore them long enough for them to realize they’re not actually changing anything with their off-the-wall behavior.

If you give them credit, or attribute any change to them, good or bad, they’ll continue acting out. In this sense, griefers are simply immature pranksters who only feel important when they can successfully frustrate other people.

Griefers dedicate their online lives to destroying the time others have, while engaging in virtual communities; they are a sub-culture unto themselves. Griefers’ existence revolves around the idea that there is nothing online so serious that it cannot, in one way or another, be ridiculed or trifled . . . !

The idea that SecondLife (a popular online game) is a “free place to live your second life,” is said to be under attack by griefers, but it’s the money makers who are worried because here, griefers affect their revenue streams, which is why those who have a vested interest in such games have turned to real world courts to settle their disputes with griefers.

Looking back on Wikipedia’s definition — particularly where they suggest griefers want to “cause grief to other players through harassment” — we find literal evidence that griefers intend to harass. And, while some might reasonably overlook the more playful intent of griefers as “good clean fun,” the money makers are not alone in wanting to draw a line.

Countless others have been affected where griefers have chosen to harass innocent others, particularly those who are not involved in any game whatsoever. This is where we distinguish “griefers” from “cyber-bullies” . . . the only question remaining, for purposes of assigning legal responsibilities, is whether such distinctions are at all “productive,” and if so, for who?

I will address this question in the second part of our discussion, which begins with a clarification of the term “cyber-bully.”

What is The Aim Of Your Website?

When you decide to put up a new website, you will obviously have a good idea of what you want to achieve. Knowing what you want out of your site will help when you speak to the people who will be doing your web design. Most web design companies will also be able to assist you with choosing the right web hosting providers. Knowing the aims and objectives of your site is extremely beneficial when choosing the correct web hosting package.

There are many different website aims, although they can be narrowed down into a few categories. Each type has its own needs, web hosting requirements and design functions.

Selling a Product

This is one of the most popular types of sites, which are centered on selling a product, either on or offline. A lot of selling sites will be in the e-commerce bracket, and will have shopping carts where the prices and photos of the products are displayed and the browser can buy them online. Other selling sites are those of affiliate marketing products where you sell an e-book or other product and will make commission off the sale. Sometimes people create sites that will give information on how to purchase the product offline, perhaps in a store or by mail order. A lot of marketing is needed to get these sites recognized, as most of the business’ money is made off sales.

Generating Leads

These types of sites will have a contact form where the browser needs to put in their personal information. This is so that one of their salespeople can then contact the person afterwards and try and obtain their sale. A lot of insurance companies will work on this principle, first asking for contact details and then perhaps the requirements of the person before having a salesman give them a call.

Offering Education and Information

These sites are popularly called niche sites as they are normally related to one specific topic. Niche sites give out information about different things. Most of the time, people go on the internet to find out information about specific topics. When they are searching for something, it will bring them to a niche site which will tell them all they need to know. If the content is meaningful and gives the reader what they need, they will appreciate the site and will probably visit it more often.

Once you have determined the aim of your website, your web designer will be able to identify what kind of look and feel will work best.

Here’s a tip to generate unlimited free blog content articles in just 13 minutes. Go to a wordpress content directory such as Find-an-Article. You’ll see these web sites break down the content into niches. Choose the category that most nearly matches your target. As an example, choose gardening articles when the site you’re wanting to increase traffic to is in this area.

Because the articles appear in English, copy & paste them into Google’s translator, convert them to Italian, copy & paste the text again and convert to Russian, then convert this back into English. Be sure to correct any words for clarity and ensure that the keywords and phrases you want to promote stay intact.

Particularly when you don’t know anything about the niche when you start, another great idea is to locate an article wizard program that generates wordpress content such as Instant Article Wizard. I’ve purchased and used many such programs. For the money and ease of use, IAW is the best I’ve found. You can create several unique articles on the same topic keywords in a few minutes. This affords you the ability to post to as many websites as you want, submit to article directories as many times as you desire and receive as much content about a niche as you want. The benefit to you is unique content, more pages indexed by Yahoo and more backlinks to your websites.

When you have the capability to crank out high quality articles, many opportunities open up for you. You can create several niche webpages and constantly post new content to them. Or, create articles to post to free article sites and get hundreds of back links to your own web sites. Another benefit is to get into the business of writing articles for other webmasters on any keyword they choose. Your future is unlimited and up to you.

Finding the Best Nintendo Wii Price Today

Nintendo Wii prices don’t really seem to fluctuate. They change depending on if they are in a bundle package or if they are used. Otherwise expect to pay the full Nintendo Wii price. Great places to find a Wii are your local Best Buy, Target, Walmart and Toys R Us. You can simply call these stores and find out if they have any special such as any coupons towards the purchase or a free game with a Wii purchase. If you do want to purchase in a bundle then look at those prices as well. Buying used will give you many more options.

Finding the best Nintendo Wii price today isn’t as easy as one might think. There are lots of packages you can purchase that includes a set of games, the Wii and a controller that really give you the best deal but may not be what you are looking for. Trying the suspect Wii vendors may come with better warranties, but perhaps the best deal might be from your local craigslist?

When deciding to purchase a Wii one must also figure out whether they will need an extra controller or any particular games. Especially during the holiday season Best Buy, Sam’s Club, Target and even Walmart will have bundle deals with an extra controller and two or three games for a price that doesn’t even sound like the down-payment on a car. Now if you were thinking that you can find a friend who works at one of these stores to buy the game console for you I’m going to disappoint you by telling you that these stores don’t give any discount for the game consoles to their employees. You can tear up that Best Buy application.

The cost of the Wii is $250 plus taxes. Or you can get a bundle that comes with 2 remotes and 3 games for about $550. It really just depends if you are planning on using the games offered in the bundle. Call your local Target, Walmart, Toys R Us, and Circuit City in the mornings to see if they even have the Wii in and to find out the Wii prices. Sometimes they are difficult to locate. The best thing about purchasing the Wii at Best Buy is that they offer a warranty plan on their electronics that extends past the warranty that Nintendo offers.

Now I know that some people find offense to purchasing items online but if you aren’t one of those people then great! You can purchase the Nintendo Wii through any trusted 3rd party seller directly at Amazon or EBay. Sometimes you might even be able to purchase one at less than the original store price. But I would be weary of used consoles. If something does happen then you are out of luck and if it is delivered and it is broken it may be difficult to get a refund from a seller in China. Sometimes you can find the Wii at game stores as well.

If you do want it for less consider signing up for a Best Buy card and getting the discount they offer you once you open the account. This may be the cheapest new route for Wii prices. If you don’t mind a used Wii then go out to the pawn shop or look in the paper. This way you can actually see if the console works before purchasing it. Used systems are also sold at EBgames or Gamestop. Used consoles would also be on craigslist. Wii prices are usually still high because it is a popular console. If you go to the game store you can even sell your old console or games and use it as credit towards the new Nintendo Wii. Good luck in your search for the best Wii price.

Loft Beds and a Tiny Area

Here in Billings, Montana, we have derived an entire area that dwells in the freshly designed tumbleweed home designs. Now these new homes are a big change from what we as Americans have become accustomed to. Instead of 3 and 4,000 square foot homes, what we have here is closer to 3, or 400 square foot.

Now, I know what your wondering, how in the world do you exist in that? Well, the answer is loft bed frames, vertical showers, microwave ovens, small stoves, micro refrigerators, micro, small, and more micro. We have discovered that in these tight times, and in comparison to other world standards, these smaller options are a genuine solution. The loft beds, create a tremendous amount of space.

Some of these creations come with the popular Murphy bed functions, but the Morphy’s don’t double as usable spaces, in most cases. I couldn’t advertise these things, unless I had tried them myself, so for one years, I lived in the 250sq foot model. Now, granted, I’m a single guy, and I have been a bachelor for the past ten years, but it really wasn’t that uncomfortable at all. I had this really unique kids loft bed, and just about every add on available, and I was good.

My only problem, was the wind. When the winds kicked up to about 50, or 60 miles an hour, or better, it was a bit unsettling, but apart from that, I definitely enjoyed it! Now when you start thinking about a family, you can consider the roomier models, and also consider joining them together, kind of like Legos.
